의료 분야의 빅데이터는 개개인의 정보와 연관되어 있으므로 민감한 문제임. 잠재적
이익이 큰 만큼 위험도 큼.
이에 유럽 의회는 2018년에 “디지털화와
빅데이터: 의료 분야에의 함의”라는 워크숍을 개최한 바 있음.
의료 보건 분야에서 빅데이터 이용은 대체로 이하의 네 부류 중의 하나.
1) 이상 징후를 조기 발견함으로써 질병의 조기 진단과 효과적인 치료를 도모하는 연구
2) 질병의 위험 인자를 파악하여 더 잘 예방할 수 있게 하고자 하는 연구
3) 약을 처방하고 복용하는 과정에서 환자 안전을 확보할 수 있게 하는 연구
4) 질병 예후 예측의 정확도를 높이는 연구
